Now on our journey through Gen~ we’re adding two new modes to our step sequencer by adopting some simple principles for generating satisfying rhythmic complexity through phase relationships and note divisions.

Moving forward in Gen~ toward algorithmic sequencers we cover the basics of sample accurate timing using a master phasor~ using division and multiplication. We also use the [playlist~] object as an all in one glitched out sampler instrument driven by our new step sequencer at signal rate.

We return to Gen~ this time creating gates and envelopes with single sample pulses from the click~ object. We also learn to read DSP diagrams and create a simple filter to create a reusable high hat generator with audio, amplitude and spectral control logic all inside the same gen~ patcher.

The EZ Gen~ tutorial series covers bite size chunks of info you can use in your Max gen~ patchers – starting from the beginner level. In this video we’re building a reusable swing/shuffle algorithm.
