EZ Gen~ Tute 004x :: Macrophase + Making your own custom [rate] operator

Compressing useful MaxMSP / Gen DSP info into 10 mins is an interesting challenge – so much so that it often takes 20! EZ Gen~ is a tutorial series encouraging both newcomers to MaxMSP and seasoned Max users (who’ve wanted to get into it but haven’t found that entry point) into familiarity with Gen~ patching, DSP and sample accurate processing.

This EZ Gen~ Extra covers a few questions around the “macrophase” derivation method I used in the previous tute where I needed to create my own [rate] abstraction. Given that this could be really useful for some folks to see how we can create our own custom operators in Gen~ we’re taking a quick detour to cover creating our own [rate] operator which will help us phase align our new polymetric sequencer.

By showing you the method I’m hoping to encourage you to think about how you can create your own abstractions for gen operators when the standard operators don’t possess a function you’d like or require.

We also take a quick peek at Codebox as a teaser for weeks to come.
